On the Amadeus guided tour "Comfort", you will be able to get to know the natural paradise that is Costa Rica, away from those well beaten tourist routes. In addition to visiting the Guayabo National Park with its important archaeological sites, you can take a hike to Costa Rica´s highest volcano; learn about coffee, macadamia and sugar cane production when visiting a local indigenous family. The natural thermal springs of the volcano Arenal are a further highlight of the tour. Here you can relax and unwind in the thermal springs warm waters. At the end of the tour you can enjoy beautiful Pacific beach sunsets on the Nicoya Peninsula.

Day 1: From your preferred airport you fly to San José. Your English speaking guide will be waiting to greet you upon arrival at the airport. After a short transfer to your hotel and after a quick check in you will be given your reserved room. Welcome cocktails will be served allowing you to get to know the other participants of the group.

Day 2: Today you drive past Costa Rica's first coffee plantations and the old capital of Cartago to theIrazu National Park and the highest volcano in Costa Rica at 3,432m. You walk through the volcanic landscape to the main crater and then on to the highest point of the volcano. Here you can enjoy the breathtaking views of the volcano’s 3 craters and with good weather the Braulio Carillo National Park and Volcano Turrialba.

In the afternoon you continue on through the very green agricultural region of ​​Turrialba.

You drive on to the Hacienda Tayutic where you can learn about the subjects of coffee, macadamia and sugar cane. At noon you stop your hunger with a typical Costa Rican dish.

Day 3: Today you visit the Guayabo National Park - the most important archaeological site in Costa Rica. The extensive complex at the foot of the active Turrialba volcano is adorned with many pre-Columbian graves, petroglyphs and the well-preserved foundations, roads and water systems of a once flourishing city.

Later on the program is a visit to CATIE (Centro de Investigación y Enseñanza Agronomico Tropical) that was founded in 1942. The tour guide takes you through the international tree seed collection the gardens and the campus of the Institute.

Day 4: Today you drive to the Sarapiqui area. Here at the Pejibaye-palm plantation Doña Maria Luz with machete and rubber boots awaits us. He will reap fresh palm hearts for us - a delicacy that is now not only in Costa Rica highly appreciated. You learn about the cultivation and processing first-hand, you then have a lunch with fresh palm hearts - Hosted Palmito

You continue on driving through the agricultural town of Pital to your lodge, which is located directly on the banks of the Rio San Carlos.

Day 5: The day begins with a hike in one of the most species-rich forests of Costa Rica. Huge trees, exotic flowers, tall palm trees with their huge pinnate leaves, and everywhere there is something scurrying past us. This is the home of the green macaw who craw loudly from the treetops. In the afternoon you take to a canoe and glide silently through the lagoon watching the many mysterious inhabitants of the jungle.

Day 6: Today is for various activities, the choice is yours.

During a night hike, you explore at nightfall the gardens and woods around the Lodge and experience nature a different perspective. With a little luck you can observe and listen to the beautiful nightlife sounds of nature from many different animals (alligators, snakes, spiders, frogs, etc.). Your nature guide will give you lots of valuable information about the fauna and flora.

Day 7: Today your journey takes you to La Fortuna de San Carlos. Following arrival at your hotel you can enjoy the hotels thermal springs.

Day 8: You walk on well-made trails to the now cooled lava fields of the Arenal volcano. There is very sparse vegetation on the slopes of the volcanic cone but below in the fertile lava sands grow tropical melastomes and orchids. You are rewarded with fantastic views of Lake Arenal and its breathtaking surroundings. 

In the afternoon we visit the thoughtfully landscaped herb and vegetable gardens of FincaEducativa EcologicaDon Juan, a former teacher at an agricultural college subsequently explains the interactions between the various known and exotic cultivated plants. Guests are invited to harvest and also help with the production of sugar cane juice, which you can taste.

Day 9: Today you leave La Fortuna on route to the cloud forests of Monteverde.

On route you visit the Swiss Family Project Los Heroes on the shores of the lake Arenal. Here you take the specially built narrow gauge railway to the mountain restaurant. Then you drive around Lake Arenal and can see the lava fields and the impressive conical of the volcano (stratovolcano). We reach the "green mountains" of Monteverde in the afternoon

  • In the evening you can take an optional night tour into the cloud forest.

Day 10: Today we have an adventure with a difference; we go on the so-called Skywalk a system of suspension bridges in the dizzying heights of the forest. Here we have the opportunity to gain an insight into the delicate ecosystem of the forest canopy. Due to its location on the Continental Divide an incomparable biodiversity of fauna and flora can be found here. The trees overgrown with epiphytes point to the high humidity of the cloud forest.

  • Those who want to test their head for heights have the option to take a Canopy Tour and zip from tree to tree through the forest canopy.

In the afternoon you visit a very interesting project about Bats and receive lots of valuable information about these nocturnal animals, their habitat and the region.

Day 11: You leave Monteverde driving along the Pan-American Highway to Puntarenas, where you take the ferry to the Nicoya Peninsula.
In the afternoon you arrive at your beach hotel.

Day 12: Today's boat trip takes us for a day in paradise!

We cruise over crystal clear water to the tropical island of Tortuga with its white sandy beaches and fantastic snorkelling. You can choose to do be active or simply relax on the beautiful beach and sunbathe.

Day 13: Today is at leisure - relax by the pool or on the golf course or walking along the beach, maybe just reviewing your trip with a cocktail or enjoying a relaxing massage – let your mood dictate your last day in Costa Rica.

Day 14: That time has come, enjoy the beach and the sea air for one last time, then in the afternoon it is back to San Jose. Here you can, over dinner reminisce over the collected impressions of your trip.

Day 15:  In the morning there is still time for a short City tour with a stop at the Central Market and a visit to the Gold Museum with its treasures from the pre-Columbian period. 

Finally your afternoon transfer to the International airport.
